very welcome reissue of the 12 inch vinyl version of the superb *onda* from brazilian soul legend cassiano. one of the founding fathers of the scene, a contemporary of and collaborator with people such as tim maia, hyldon, etc., cassiano only released a handful of lps and singles but the quality made up for the quantity and this 1977 polydor 12- features two of his best moments. side as *onda* is a lilting sun-drenched slice of pure soul heaven with a grooving b-line and sweet vocals that at nearly 8 minutes is still not enough - a truly captivating mellow masterpiece that you want to last forever... the flip side is no less accomplished - an upfront bass-heavy funk jam guaranteed to whip the dancefloor into a frenzy. essential!

rafael da cruz 1st black label 12inch finally hits the streets, dipping into deeper, gloomier spheres of house. soaring synths cleverly trim the bed of fat broad baselines. the black 80s give the original a wicked analogue touch, with a splendid soulful vocal version as bonus track. cosmic cowboys and david hasert supply two impressive remixes that both create a dark, but uniquely vibrant scenery and complete the package.

nobody can deny the fact that vilnius in lithuania is currently a very creative and agile place. first and foremost mario basanov of course, whose ten walls moniker swept the board last year and whose hype seems to have only just started. his popularity was heightened by the start of his own label boso. it took off with the highly praised -walking with elephants-, which was already one of the biggest tunes of this summer, before it even came out. the second release is by few nolder, another highly talented native from vilnius, who showed frst signs of life on connaisseur with his lovely tune -space espace- on our last edition of livingroom techno as well as with his remix for -canto d amore- by marco effe & francesco carone. -clouds- is the name of his boso release, and it looks to be the next big thing for this young label. for his frst own release on connaisseur he delivered -if-.the fact that it is different from his other output is why we have decided to present this tune in two versions as a 10- vinyl-only single. the original is a summerish and catchy house cut with a bouncy bassline and a slightly uk-approach.this tune makes you move without there being much you can do about it. the alt version goes deeper, building up with a question/answer theme until a strong, driving piano element joins to complete the track. lovers of older pokerflat releases will truly enjoy this version.

idjut boys started in early 90s, when house music was heading for the bubbly, wild excitement, and they have always been active in an underground scene which has been drawing the line at the mainstream. carrying on the tradition of house and disco, they have ever played an important role in forming the house and disco culture in uk, producing the intoxicating groove of funk and dub, which is the significant factor in house and disco.

sideral is the debut 12inch of talaboman, the super-duo of hivern discs john talabot and studio barnhus axel boman. the record is released as a joint venture between the labels and comes with a slow-burning remix by köln based producer matt karmil to accompany the boombastic original version, which was also featured on john talabots much praised entry in the dj-kicks mix series last year.

harry agius has been making waves as midland since 2010, releasing a series of increasingly impressive 12”s as a solo artist but also collaborating with the likes of ramadanman (pearson sound), breach and pariah on labels such as aus music, naked naked, works the long nights and his own graded imprint. he is also a prolific remixer who has lent his talents to artists such as lone, guy gerber, julio bashmore, dusky and more. we can proudly say he came to many people’s attention via his first phonica 12” ‘play the game’ back in 2010 and he has remained a friend and regular at the shop ever since. midland’s well deserved rise has been a delight to watch from the sidelines and we’re glad to welcome harry back to phonica with the fantastic ‘before we leave’. it starts slowly but surely as reverb soaked percussion comes to the fore, cushioned by the truly beautiful string melody, which we’re sure will be stuck in many a head this year! this could well be midland’s most deftly handled arrangement yet. running back’s gerd janson wisely decides to stick to the original track’s feel, letting the strings weave their magic, yet also brings the bassline and drums to the forefront. delicately but expertly done. midland rounds out the 12” with his barebones drums and percussion-only ‘bonus beats’ version, perfect dj tool material. we wish more records had these!

snuff trax celebrates magic record release number 010: happy jackin birthday! for this little anniversary we asked four great artists to rework chosen tracks from the labels back catalogue. leading us off, mr white (you know him from his collaboration with larry heard) made an edit of snuff crews *are you house*. followed by humandrone from tokyo remixing perseus traxx - *dont feel alone*. on the flipside you hear a remix treatment for raiders of the lost arp - *stealing my love* made by our man takeshi kouzuki of kobe/japan. and last but not least dimdj from thessaloniki created his own version of *galaxian journey* by elec pt.1.

the horst sind zurück mit ihrem neuen album *tofte*. das wort stammt aus dem münster-typischen, rotwelschen sozialdialekt masematte und bedeutet so viel wie gut, oder auch toll. manfred schulz, als langzeitbegleiter der band, war erneut als co-produzent, tontechniker und freundschaftlicher berater am start. mehr noch als beim vorgängeralbum, fällt bei *tofte* die gemeinsame freude an guten songs auf, die von verschiedensten einflüssen aus der popgeschichte und den eigenen plattenschränken geprägt sind, sich aber jenseits von rock-klischees, muckertum, schlagerspießigkeit oder kunsthandwerk bewegen. aber wie auch immer: hauptsache der song tuts und er klingt gut.

listening to the sound of konfetti klub ensemble creates associations of those sparkling drops that run down the side of an ice cold drink on hot summer days. it’s a very refreshing and delicious listening experience, it’s both stimulating and soothing. if you think the formula brass players + club groove is somewhat worn-out, you will be pleasantly surprised. pomelo comes with bouncy offbeat rhythms, and when the trombone hits in there’s clearly an air of balkan sound. however, around the middle of the track it turns into a joyful freestyle session. mollono.bass puts a bit more emphasis on beats, bass and pressure in his version, in other words: even a bit more emphasis on the dance floor. rotwein und sommerverbot gives a groovy hint why konfetti klub ensemble describe their sound as live brass house – it’s extremely jazzy and casual, a live session rather than a programmed arrangement. even more so schwankel, as it vibrates effortlessly between intricate musical deepness and sheer to-the-floor euphoria. last but not least there is a track exclusively for the digital release: stranddub – beach dub. let’s put it like that: there’s a damn good party happing at this beach.

with his previous releases on nervous, hotfingers and frequenza, angel stoxx is on our map since a long time. he brings us two house party slammers par excelence. the perfect mood for our summer vibes. as a remixer we could win our favourite clown from brighton: enzo siffredi who brings us a deeper version of hoola high with a lovely bassline. the second remix comes from deep bros & monodeluxe. they strip down the original to the main elements, add a nice guitar and create a sexy house track. get your cocktails and put on your sunglasses.

as our true fans know, every now and then we leave our comfort zone to bring something else than techno. this season, we gave dib from italy the honor to be the unusual one. three tracks, three times basic, stripped down house that does well as a tool or a track in the early or deep hours of the night. or just for those people working hard at the office and wanting some deep house during their officework. all tracks have a very old skool vibe to it and breathe true deep house: not the filtered down vocal kind, but the breed that just lets a 909, 808 shine and some rhodes or warm analogue synths do the work. the first one is rather detroitish - with a nice acid stab and some strings setting the mood, the second one is more dance floor oriented and the third version is a bit of both. does it need to be said that dimitri andreas mastered it again? and that it is available on vinyl?

a few trips in tel aviv made ivan smagghe aware of the extensive and more importantly, quasi forgotten, wave and pop scene from israel. blown away some of the tracks passed on to him, he and the ginger prince thought it would be a good start for the lddlm reissues series, edits and originals.

danny daze is back on ellum with another killer single, flange. a monster of an ep that is perfect for summer madness! the a side feature the original version of flange, an unadulterated slice of storming techno complete with dissident car engines screaming in and out of the mix, heady stuff. on the flip and danny delivers a sparse jacking dub version of flange. finally the ep is rounded off with the effervescent transcendentalness of ritmo, another great release from ellum!
